What an awesome list! This is such a heartening reminder of how many awesome female authors are working in SF/F. I'm going to do this right now myself! :-) :-)

The more the merrier ^^. [livejournal.com profile] chomiji did it, too.

So she has! It's fascinating looking at what people have and haven't read. BTW, was it you who recommended (ages ago) that I read Shannon Hale's The Goose Girl? Well, I read it yesterday and thought it was lovely, so thanks (if it was indeed your rec) :-).

I may have recommended Shannon Hale's Bayern series to someone, but I wouldn't bet on it having been you ^^, e.g. I have no recollection of it at the moment.
My favourite book of hers is outside the series (although it has quite a similar flavour): The Princess Academy

I think that clinches it - it was you! Because I have both of those books noted down together as must-reads, and your name with a question mark. I will definitely try to lay hands on The Princess Academy as well, because I enjoyed the Goose Girl so much :-). Thanks!

Yay ^^, very welcome. I've been twice sucessful this year with my book-pushing now. And once unsuccessful (one hit with Thea of the Booksmugglers, one miss with Janicu of Janicu's Bookblog - both concerning P.C. Hodgell) and now another hit.

Also, don't forget there are three more books in the Bayern series!

Ah, P.C. Hodgell - she's a tricky one, really. I think she's pretty special, but I guess she's not to everyone's tastes. And I shall definitely read the other books in the Bayern series!

Bayern Series

I love the list and noted down Shannon Hale, but am wondering what the Bayern Series entails. Does "Bayern" mean the lovely (?) country we both live in or is it an artificial English word used here?

P.S. I followed you over from Athanarel (in case you wonder). Maybe you remember having read me there.

Yes, I remember your LJ username ^^. Welcome. Hmm, well I don't think the Bayern series is historical fantasy Bavaria but the whole setting of the various countries that constitute the series and the fact that most of the books are based on Grimm's fairytale tales make the series very much a fantasy with a Germanic fairytale feel (it could just as well be Austria or Switzerland).

Actually, as they go on, I think they lose most of their European feel and become their own fantasy world. They're still good, though - but quite dark on occasion.

Also, I do most of my book reviewing on GoodReads.com these days, I started that this April I think and when I'm moved to sneer or squee, I do it there now.

heh, just follow the avatar, I should be the only one to use it because it was custom made.

Thanks, Estara, for the illuminating links! I might give it a try! The synopses definitely read very interesting.

They definitely seem to be popular, so ought to remain available. My second most favourite read of Shannon Hale's has become Book of a Thousand Days (sort of an Asian version of a Rapunzel situation, almost).

One fantasy that is definitely set in the Swiss alps is Diane Duane's A Wind from the South (http://raetiantales.blogspot.com/) - but I haven't read it yet. Available via Lulu in print and as an ebook otherwise. Just in case you were looking for fantasy based on our part of Europe in general.

I love book enabling/book pushing if people are happy with their choices ^^, so you are very welcome.

Many thanks for adding me to the list!

And hey, now that my "classic" novel Dreams of the Compass Rose (http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/16395) is available in its entirety, as a multi-format e-book FREE download... here's a chance for folks who have never heard of me to try my work. :-)

But of course, you belong there.

Thank you very much, Ms Nazarian!

I've noticed that you hadn't added your new edition to Goodreads.com yet, and since I have librarian status, I added it.
