Meljean Brook is having a great competition for her newest paranormal romance, Demon Bound and while I have preordered the book, I'd like to enter her competition as well.
Good question: you need to like paranormal, obviously, as she has vampires, demons, angels and Guardians (sort of humans turned angels) but does very much her own thing with them.
She always has believable complex unique couples that have a reason for their ups and downs and no big misunderstandings just for the heck of it. Her heroines are never TSTL.
I wrote a review (with spoilers, as always) of the third book in her series on my original blog http://www.bookish.net/2008/02/09/247/. I know that the reviewers at DearAuthor.com and Nalini Singh like her. Her world-building is more complex, I think that's why she isn't as easy a read as Nalini Singh... she ought to be more successful. She has a great blog at her own site. And would you believe, she was discovered as a fanfiction writer (from what I gather mostly WonderWoman & Batman) via her extended own world entries and was picked up by the editor of a publisher that way... http://meljeanbrook.com/blog/
Actually browsing through her blog today she had a really good article on infodumping and quoted a whole scene from her third book on the background of her world, so if you like what you read there you might like it all. http://meljeanbrook.com/blog/archives/1187
Did you see that Oycter just review THIS book!! That's such a coincidence, don't you think? Fictionwise has the Demon Bound, Demon Night, Demon Moon. It also says that the Demon Bound is the 7th book..!
Yes I did ^^. Serendipity in action. And I'm just reading it, heh. I think her worldbuilding is stronger than oyceter thinks, but maybe I just don't read critically enough.
Demon Bound is the 7th bit she wrote that has to do with the Guardians. She has some short stories in anthologies, you see. She lists them in order on this page http://www.meljeanbrook.com/books.html
